ACS EFMP Mandatory Enrollment
Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP)

The Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) is a mandatory program in all branches
of the service. Its mission is to assist active duty personnel with Family members who have
physical, emotional, developmental, or intellectual needs that require special treatment,
therapy, education, training, and equipment or building modifications. The program is
designed to minimize disruptions that those needs might have upon the Family during
relocation, and to give considerations to those needs in the Reassignment process through
medical and education evaluations.

Enrollment in the program is mandatory and valid for three years.  It must be  updated at
least six months prior to expiration. Renew or update sooner if there are changes in the
EFM’s medical or educational needs. Disenrollment is required to be taken out of the EFMP.
