Basketball FAQ
How are teams formed?
If there is more then one team in each age group, a skills assessment will be conducted with all coaches and the Sports Staff present for equality of teams.
How many players are allowed on a team?
We will allow rosters to have 12 players in league play.
Can a pre-formed team enter a team at APG?
No, this league is recreational and is based on developing a child's skills.
How many games will be played?
There will be six games scheduled for the clinic, ages 4-6. In league play, there will be approximately eight games.
When and where will games begin?
In clinic, all games/practice will occur at either Youth Center on Saturdays. The clinic start date is Dec. 1. League play begins on Jan 5, 2008. Directions to these facilities will be issued to the coaches with the schedules. Schedules do not come out until after Christmas.
What about refunds?
Eligible refunds are: medical or PCS.
Are there any additional costs to this league?
Yes, if a child has not paid the annual reg. fee for a current Youth Center member, he/she must register with an annual fee of $18 per individual and $40 per family (3 or more children).
When are practices held?
Since volunteers coach the teams, the coaches dictate the days of practices. All teams cannot practice more than twice a week. After registration and prior to the season, a coaches meeting will occur to select and assign gym time for the season. Coaches must contact their players by Friday, Nov 23, 2007.

Coach and Parent Information
1. All player information must be turned in by Nov. 9, 2007. A fee of $35 clinic and $45 league must accompany all completed Reg. forms. The Registration deadline is Nov. 9, 2007. All registrations taken after Nov. 10 will be based on openings. All sports physicals must be turned in to Central Registration, Bldg. 2752, prior to the first scheduled practice, which is Nov. 26, 2007.
2. Players must abide by the CYS Code of Conduct when participating in the Youth Centers.
3. Each player must be a CYS member ($18 per year) to participate in the Youth Sports Program.
4. Basketball clinic is for ages 4-6 (age as of Dec. 31, 2007). The Clinic will be held on Saturday mornings at both Aberdeen and Edgewood Youth Centers from Dec. 1 - Feb. 9. Time is 9 - 10 a.m. The program is looking for volunteer coaches. Please call 410-306-2297 if interested. The practices in December will be practices only. In January and February a session will consist of Approx. 30 min. of practice and 30 min. of practice games.
5. Basketball League is for youth ages 7-14. Evaluations and practices begin the week of Nov. 26, 2007. Games in league play will be located throughout Harford County on Saturdays beginning Jan. 5. Locations and directions will be issued to coaches once the schedule is finalized.
6. Coaches requirements. All Youth Sports coaches must be NYSCA certified with NYSCA. If a coach fails to comply with this certification or does not complete and pass the background checks, then that coach will be removed and a new coach will be required.
7. Uniforms will be issued for each team in which the parents are responsible for. We will supply coaches shirts for each coach. The APG-issued uniform will be an official uniform for the league and it may not be altered. This supplied uniform must be worn in each game. Upon completion of the season, uniforms will be returned to the league coordinators via the coach.
8. All Parents must sign the NYSCA Parents Code of Ethics during the first parents/coaches meeting, which is mandatory for your child's participation in the Youth Sports Program.

Anyone interested in coaching, refereeing or scorekeeping, contact the CYS Sports Office. All players must be CYS members to participate. Membership is $18 annually.

The Youth Sports and Fitness program provides support for children 2-1/2 to 18 years of age to encourage healthy life-long habits. Team sports are only available with the participation of volunteer coaches and assistants. All coaches are trained and certified by the National Alliance of Youth Sports (NAYS). Players must be registered with CYS in order to enroll.
